Pitukiska Nursery

Casa Ecologica established this nursery in the community of Pitukska, 3800m, with the purpose that the locals would plant vegetables and beans for consumption, in order to prepare the seed plants for the reforestation of dyeing and medicinal plants.  It is an experience that may be repeated in other communities..

Cultural Center in Parobamba

Built by a group of American students with local materials (adobe walls and a straw roof) as part of Parobamba’s elementary school, it provides the children with a library, video room and cultural center where they are able to enrich their knowledge, and also gather a collection of books, videos and all types of other cultural information.  It is extremely useful for the children in the community and the same need exists in other communities. If you would like to send books or materials to Parobamba’s Center please contact us.

Monthly meetings with the communities

In the communities where they carry out a barter system (trueque), those from the very high altitudes exchange goods with those from the lower altitudes, like native potatoes for fruit and vegetables, sheep, llama or alpaca wool for dyeing and medicinal plants.

Bee-keeping Project in Lamay

This Project is being developed with the objective to implement a bee-keeping center and set up bee hives throughout the valley of Lamay, reforested with pollen producing and medicinal plants with the ultimate goal of creating an alternative economic income, as well as giving locals the opportunity to keep products from the bee hives (honey and its derivatives).   This would be as soon as the reforestation of native plants assist the conservation of the Sacred Valley’s biodiversity environment.  More bee hives can be set up in Lamay and throughout the Willcamayu River’s ravines.
